So as most of you know, in addition to slingin’ the six-string for Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers and other around-town music luminaries, I also do a bit of amateur radio operating on the side. That’s ham radio, if you’re not familiar. Probably your uncle, dad, or grandpa did it. Believe it or not, in the age of cellular phones and the internet, firing radio waves wirelessly into the ionosphere is alive and well. (more…)

So once in a while, amazing things happen.

I was in a particularly bad/sad funk tonight and so I decided to get on the radio to take my mind off things. I get on the 20meter band, and make a couple contacts, WV, UT, IL. Called and called for several minutes and no answer. I was about to switch off the radio and then a voice comes over and says “KF5IED, this is K6IAW”. (more…)
